Fair Winds John Merchant

 

Fair Winds John It is with great sadness to report that our long time sailing pal John Merchant passed away last week. John has been a decades long active Cal 20 sailor and one of our most active Fleet 1 members. Breakfast Club crewed by John and long time buddy and crew Rob Fuller have been a fixture at local fleet races, Wet Wednesdays, ABYC holiday regattas, and Class Championships for as long as most of us can remember. John was a good friend, good sailor, good family figure, and a good man. Windy (John's long time nickname) sailed Snipes in his younger days and then migrated to Cal 20's. John as an ASPBYC Staff Commodore, an ABYC Staff Commodore and active club and fleet volunteer. He served on several capital improvement committees at ABYC and was always willing to lend a helpful hand. Recently, John was the designated boat boy for his grandson in getting the family Sabot up and running. We want to pass along our best very thoughts and prayers to the Merchant family. At this time, we don't have any information regarding John's celebration of life.
